I'm kind of obsessed with this mint color lately. It's so Spring!
I was sick on Easter weekend, so it wasn't the best for me. Ryan took the kids to the Easter Egg Hunt up at the Country Club. Brooke sent me a couple pictures too. The kids had fun. I was sorry to miss it, but I was not functioning.
Here are the Easter baskets the night before.
I thought it would be nice to get them something they could have for breakfast other than sugary cereal because I knew I would need to sleep in a bit. They kids came in asking if they could eat their oats and I mumbled "yeah, whatever." Unfortunately, they didn't love them. They had used water, which is what the directions say to use, but I always use almond milk in their oatmeal. And the oats were not very sweet at all. That is great if you ask me, I like them that way. But the kids didn't love them. Once I woke up and told them they had to eat them before having any candy, they all got them down pretty easily. (Each of those oat bowl was like $2.79, so don't think I'm super mean, I just don't like to be wasteful!)
The kids had been up for a little while before I got up and when I did get up, I found that Dylan had taken all of the candy in Kaden's basket and split it between him and the girls. I was annoyed because he didn't ask and I thought the kids had enough. And I had planned on Ryan and I eating Kaden's candy at some point. Dylan tried to put back all the candy he had taken out. I ate Kaden's oatmeal, though.
Dylan goes, "Mom, why'd you give Kaden candy when he can't have it?" I was like, "huh? Didn't the Easter Bunny give him candy?" Dylan was like, "I know it's you!" So we had to have a little talk about how he needs to not go around saying things like that around younger kids. If he chooses not to believe, that's his choice, but it's important not to ruin it for others. I asked him what made him so sure that I was the one who filled their baskets and he told me that he saw the new eggs in my closet. Well, I hadn't tried to hide the eggs. Those are the ones I was going to have Ryan hide for their egg hunt. But Dylan was pretty sure I used the same eggs from my closet. Oh well. It's only a matter of time before it all clicks for him. And I don't have high hopes of him keeping it all a secret for long.
We had a good time listening to Conference. The kids love Conference because they get to play games. I've posted before about what we do- bowls of snacks with words and actions. When a speaker says the word, they have to do the action and then get a treat. Things like running up and down the stairs, saying "I love you" to someone, burpees, etc.
Then Ryan hid all the eggs. There were like 100 of them. Maybe. It was a lot. We write their initials on them because otherwise Dylan would end up with 75% of them. So they have to find the ones with their initial.
I had been on antibiotics since Friday night, and I was feeling well enough to pull together an Easter dinner. Nothing too big, just ham with a homemade glaze (the ham was uncured from Natural Grocers so it didn't come with a glaze, and it was a little more expensive than a normal spiral ham, which is why I was sure to find ways to use up the leftovers the following week. The ham and cheese casserole I made was pretty good!), sweet potato casserole (my favorite holiday dish), and spinach salad.
I was happy to have time to rest and heal and enjoy Conference and time with the family. We had a good weekend.
