Take 5 on running a marathon. I had one pretty good marathon that wrecked my knee. One marathon that my legs fell apart on and so I was wrecked after. One really great marathon where I got under 4 hours. One crappy marathon where I was sick and got almost 5 hours. And this was number 5. My intention all along had been to do marathons until I stopped being so intimidated by them. Well, this one did not accomplish that. But it was really pretty at the start! This is the site of the Teton Dam flood museum or something. I was doing this with my friends and I was excited. The first problem was that the weather had been very chilly up until a few days before and on race day it was like 80+. I had prepared well for this one. It should've gone very smoothly. My only explanation is that the heat drained me, though it didn't really feel that hot most of the time. By the time I got to mile 10 I could already tell it wasn't going to be a great race. The good part is that Sherri and I were together for almost all of it. I stopped to use the bathroom and then it took me a few miles to catch back up to Sherri. As soon as we realized we weren't going to get a great time, we just started waiting for each other and stuff. Jen took off ahead of us at the start, we assumed she was going to go hang out with Sherri's husband Dan. We didn't see either of them again until they were waiting under a tree close to the finish line. The last 6 miles or so were really hard. My legs were not falling apart or anything, it's like my whole body was just rebelling. I was drinking and eating at each aid station. But I just had to keep taking walk breaks. By the time I was almost done, I had decided that marathons are just not fun and I don't need that kind of negativity in my life anymore. I'm over it. It was my slowest race. I think I got 5hrs and 1 minute or something dumb. Jen and Dan finished a full hour before us.
