May 2023

May was crazy.  Looking through all these pictures makes me think it was a super fun month, but I can still remember how overwhelmed I was and I was barely surviving.  Soccer was a big part of it, and I'll post separately about that.  Costa Rica was amazing, but exhausting.  Here is what the rest of the month looked like.

The PTO put on the Warrior Run again.  Sara and some other people helped out a ton this year so it wasn't too stressful for me.  But I spent the day helping at the school.  I love this event.  Sadie had to stay home sick and we were both really sad she had to miss it.  We were all very happy it was nice weather!  Kylee stopped by during her lunch break and classtime she didn't want to go to.  She needed to talk to Dan about helping with Grit League for her Senior Project too.

I ran 14 miles before I left for Costa Rica.  I wasn't able to run while there because the roads weren't safe and there were no treadmills where we stayed.  But we hiked a lot and were plenty active.  I'm training for two half marathons back to back in June so it is important to get my miles in though.

This one was in Boise after one of Kylee's games.  Much too hot to do any running outside.

The one hour I got to spend with my mom before our trip.  No worries, she's coming back in a few weeks.

Sadie had her final Battle of the Books Battle while we were in Costa Rica.  My mom went to watch her and they ended up winning the whole thing!  So proud of them.

Kylee had prom the day after we got back.  Actually we got home at like 3am and her prom was that night so the same day.  I had to go to Twin Falls that morning to coach Kaden's soccer team in two games (I'm telling you, things were chaotic!) and we ended up making it home in time for me to see Kylee before she left for prom so that was nice.  She doesn't need my help getting ready, but I did help her try to steam and iron her dress.  Her date was Brock again, just because they are friends and he wanted to go to Hillcrest's prom.  Lucky for her he is tall because her shoes added like four inches.  She was as tall as Ryan!
She actually had fun at this dance!  Not enough to stay out super later, lol.  But she had friends there and had fun.  Her pictures were really cute too.

After Dylan and I fought on my birthday, he redeemed himself on Mother's Day.  The fact that he spent so much time on something for me, not to mention it's cute, made it really special.

And Kylee posted this for me.  I love that we can share our love to Taylor Swift.
I have no memory of what we were doing but this picture is dated May 14th and I thought the boys were cute together.

We got invited to this award ceremony at the school and I was thinking it would have something to do with her outstanding grades or one of her teachers nominating her for something.  But it was just another award for their science fair project.  Still fun.

Crocs are not cool.  I don't know why all the kids like them.  Why do they like ugly things?  Kylee loves them.  Averi and Jen stayed with us in Boise when the team made it to the championship and we had to stay an extra night.

We had a crazy flash flood in Idaho Falls!  It didn't really get to us in Ammon.  There was a big rain and hail storm.  The hail tore up leaves from all the trees and those leaves clogged up the drains on the roads.  And there was lots of rain too.  Cheryl had pieces of leaves covering every inch of her large yard and driveway.  The low spots downtown had some serious flooding.  Not a good day to be out there trying to drive!  I took these pictures from posts online.  I was not over there.

Sadie had a busy month.  She was Joan of Arc at the wax museum and she did a fantastic job.

And they had the 6th grade track meet.  Sadie competed in the mile and jump rope.  They trained a lot for this and she was constantly complaining about her knees or feet hurting.  She was also doing a lot of soccer.  I kept telling her that she didn't need to run so much, soccer was good enough training but she wanted to.  She did amazing!  She placed 3rd out of all the girls in the mile with about 7:30.  And she placed 2nd in jump rope doing way better than she ever did at practice.

All the kids participated in the soccer tournament over Memorial Day Weekend.  Kaden also had finals for flag football (he played one soccer game and two football games in one night, then two more soccer games the next day).  Their team was undefeated throughout the whole season and on the championship game the team they were playing against was in tears most of the game thinking they were definitely going to lose.  Somehow the game got within a few points and in the last few seconds the other team through a pass in the end zone and nobody was guarding the one kid on their team that could catch.  Our boys lost and they were devastated.  We were all a little shocked.  But what a great story for that other team to be able to tell.

Kaden asked if I was coming on their 2nd grade field trip. I had not volunteered for that because sometimes you just have to give yourself a little bit of downtime.  But I didn't technically have anything planned for that day so I asked Kaden if he wanted me to come and he said yes please.  So of course I came.  They went to the Artitorium, the park for lunch, and then to see the Super Mario movie.  I love hanging out these fun boys.  They are young enough that they like me still.

Sadie had her 6th grade graduation, which meant they sang some broadway type songs they had worked on for the parents and then they went across the street to the church grass and partied.

They were supposed to be dressed in school uniform type clothing and they sang Revolting Children and they sang Start of Something New from High School Musical. And some other ones.

Dylan has a fear of spiders and it's a little out of hand.  But it is what it is and I am not trying to make fun of that, but I had to post this conversation because of Kaden and how funny it was.  I'm not sure if Kaden just saw the texts or if Dylan really asked him for help but Kaden took care of putting a cup on it.  It was too funny.
