Happenings in September: The biggest thing that happened in September of this year was Ken passed away. After Cheryl's 70th birthday party, he started going downhill. Death is always hard, but it did seem like he was able to go in the way that he wanted and the family received a lot of peace during that time. He had been at home with family, mostly not conscious and passed away in the evening, the same evening Sara and her family were in Utah for Rachel's heart surgery. The next day Cheryl and I were scheduled to play in a golf scramble that Ryan had signed up for and didn't want to play. Even though it was the day after losing Ken, we still played. Cheryl had been home all week and had a peaceful evening with family and she felt like going out to golf would be better than sitting in her house alone. We had a lovely day, and there were a few tears shed, but also lots of laughing and chatting. We were the only all women team as far as I know, and we didn't win anything, lol.
Grandma was trying Dr Pepper, which she never drinks so we took a picture to send to Hailee because it's her favorite drink.
Julie and I are not ready to be done hiking yet. We went to Fall Creek and did a trail.
And we went up Kelly Canyon to take family pictures and she is smart and had Sadie take this picture of us. Love her!
Dylan got his driver's license and I took this picture to mark the day because Dylan does not like me taking pictures of him. The DMV is so annoying... He ended up taking the written test a couple weeks prior and failing it. Then we signed him up for the drive with the instructor, which he passed and we were able to get in and let him try again on the computer test and he passed the second time. He still doesn't wear his glasses or contacts but somehow he managed to pass the eye exam without them. I'm still quite nervous and a little surprised they let him pass, lol, but it's good. He said the guy asked him what the hand signals are for turning, and he just guessed and got one right and one wrong. I don't remember being tested on that!
At the end of the month, we had a Celebration of Life for Ken. We had so many family and friends come to celebrate his life and share memories of Ken. It was a good day. If I'm being honest, I feel less motivated to do these blog posts now that Ken is not around to see them. He was probably my biggest fan. We miss him.
In an effort to keep it light-hearted, Ryan printed out emojis and the younger kids held them up when they felt it was appropriate.
