September Stuff

September may be my favorite month of all.  The weather is so nice, there are peaches and tomatoes and all sorts of produce in season.  And though life is busy, we find time to play too.

Sadie sometimes asks me to take random pictures of her.  That’s what is happening here.

And here.  “Mom take a picture of me with my headband in before gymnastics then I will take it out.”  And of course she poses.

With the kids in school, we found some things to do.  We went to the zoo with Brooke and her friend.  The lion was so close and looking right at us!

We went for walks to enjoy the sunshine and get a few extra steps in.  Sadie loves to ride her bike down Lexi’s steep driveway.  Kaden has a fat lip in these pictures because Sadie tried to “help” him crawl and ended up pushing him facedown onto the hard wood floor, causing him to bleed.  She felt really bad.  But not bad enough to not do it again a week later.  You’d think she would learn her lesson.  But she just can’t get enough of Kaden and can’t stop loving on him.

We spent some time doing puzzles or playing games.  Candyland is always a favorite.  Then we watched her Preschool DVD from last year for awhile.  And took a couple selfies.
Kaden loves this table, just like all the kids before him!  It's so fun when they are first learning to stand.
The Jr/Adult golf tournament was on Labor Day weekend this year instead of in July like usual.  It was chilly!  We got Grandma to play with Kylee, I played with Dylan, and Ryan played with Sadie.  We had a good time, though our group- Grandma and Kylee and Dylan and I were really slow.  We didn’t realize how slow until we got done and there was barely any pizza left and everybody was dying for our score cards so they could give out awards.  They gave out the top awards first.  I think Justin tied for first and had to do rock-paper-scissors with this much older kid to decide who took the title.  After the first couple winners they said they wanted to do something a little different and do HIGHEST gross score.  Which just happened to be me and Dylan.  He didn’t pay attention to what the guy said she he didn’t know it was because he was dead last.  Even when he figured it out, he didn’t care.  I got a cool remote control helicopter!  Then they let everyone come up and get some prizes, and my kids ended up with a few different ones because the pros were trying to get rid of them.  It was a fun day!  The poor kid that has to play with me…  Though I must say Dylan nailed some chips.  And I didn’t drive too bad either.

We were invited to go boating by Ryan’s friend Justin.  In September!  The water wasn’t even all that cold.  Ryan and I wakeboarded.  This is when Ryan injured his shoulder.  The water was nice and smooth like glass and it was really fun.  It’s too bad my muscles won’t hold up for just a little longer, though.  Even with all my squats and jumps that I do.  The only picture I got was of Sadie on the tube with Justin’s stepdaughter.  And my finger was in it.  Awesome.
Another activity we did as a family was hiking at Pallisades Lake.  Well, we didn’t actually hike to the lake.  We started on the trail.  But Sadie didn’t last very long.  She is not much of a hiker, but in her defense she had already played soccer in the hot, hot sun and so she was worn out.  So we didn’t make it very far on the hike.  But really, I’m not sure how long I could’ve carried the baby-backpack.  It was heavy and he leaned to one side so it was all wonky.

After we hiked to the little beach area, we took a break and played.  Then hiked back to the car.  It was like 20 minutes in and then back out.  Dylan- in true Dylan style, decided to go on ahead by himself and told us he would meet us at the car.  I hoped he wouldn’t miss the bridge turn-off and keep going.  We caught up to him right about the end and he said he read a sign giving advice for bears and one of the things was “never hike alone”.  So he decided it might be best to stop and wait for us. Ha ha.

Then we drove to the lake.  Kaden fell asleep in the car so Ryan stayed in the car with him while the kids and I walked down to the beach (with roudy, drunken boaters all over the dock area).  The mud was weird and kind of gross.  But the kids found shells and bugs so they were happy.  It was just so pretty!

Then we stopped for square ice cream, of course.

Here is one of my sweaty selfies with my two lovies.  They are adorable, I’m sweaty and yucky.  Oh well!

Dylan has been reading a few different series.  We went to the library and he grabbed a bunch of books.  I told him I shouldn’t let him get them all because there was no way he would read them all in the three weeks before they were due.  Then I said, “I’ll give you $5 if you read them all in three weeks.”  Well, Dylan’s not one to back down from a challenge.  Especially when it means money for him.  So he read like three of them the first day.  Needless to say, I lost the bet.  But I don’t mind because he realized that he can read chapter books easily and he enjoys them so now he’s reading these books all the time, as well as Goosebumps, which he used to always want Dad to read to him.  He’s a great little reader.
On the last warm weekend we decided to go swimming at Heise.  It wasn’t THAT warm, but Heise is a hot springs so it’s good.  We were disappointed that the slide and other pool were closed down.  It was just one pool and the really hot pool.  I got the kids into the really hot water.  It’s just like a hottub.  It’s only really hot for a minute.

We played and had fun, but Sadie had a stomachache.  One of many.  She went through a couple weeks of complaining of her stomach hurting multiple times a day.  She eventually threw up so I guess it probably was a virus or something.  But boy did it linger.

Kaden’s a bit of a troublemaker.  He got into the box of peaches.  I’m assuming he thought they were apples because he loves eating little apples.  Though he doesn’t actually eat that much of them, he chomps on them and then spits them out.  I think this peach surprised him.  He ate a few bites, and rubbed it all over the window.  But then he was done.

There are some mornings that I don’t get up to exercise before the kids are up.  So I bought this running stroller from Lyndy.  I originally tried to have Kaden in the stroller and Sadie riding her bike.  But she said I was going too fast so we put the bike away and she got in the stroller too.  It is surprisingly easy to push, even with the weight of a preschooler and a baby.  I enjoy it.  Though I would rather go by myself.  The stroller hardly even slows my pace.  Kaden falls asleep and Sadie gets bored, though.  I let her watch Frozen on my phone one time.

Dylan purchased a bag of candy corn mix at the store with his own money.  The money from reading or soccer.  I told him not to let me have any.  That I wasn’t allowed to have any.  I am trying to avoid the Halloween candy binging.  I didn’t buy candy corn at all last year.  And I planned to avoid it this year too.  As he was sharing with everyone I asked for one. When he handed me a pumpkin I said, “just kidding, you aren’t supposed to let me have any! That was a test!”  I’m not sure he really understands what I am struggling with, that I shouldn’t have candy for my stomach’s sake.  Because I went in my room that night to find this on my bed.
He’s so willing to share.  He wants me to enjoy it.  I had to give it to Ryan.  And Dylan even asked me the next morning if I ate it.  I had to tell him no, but that it was really sweet.
