Dylan was baptized on July 2nd! It was definitely a special day. We had so many family members there to
celebrate with him.
Doesn't he look so handsome in his suit! {Insert heart-eyed emoji here}
Leading up to his baptism, we talked a lot about what it
means to be baptized, stressing the importance of the decision he was making,
and repeatedly telling him that if he wasn’t ready he could wait. The thing about Dylan is that he doesn’t love
being the center of attention. When he
is, he becomes a smart-mouth and can’t be serious. This is a problem when so many people are
celebrating such a big day for him. I
thought maybe we should downplay things a little with him but decided against
it because it is a BIG, SPECIAL day and even if the attention makes him
uncomfortable, he’ll just have to learn to deal with it. When it came down to it, he knew why he was
getting baptized, he knew that he was committing to keeping the commandments,
including fasting, pay tithing, being honest, etc.
I made out the invitations and sent them, and then got an
email saying they had decided to change the time of his baptism because there
weren’t very many kids that month so they didn’t need to do two different
times. That was a bit annoying since I
had just sent the invites out, but not a big deal. So his baptism started at 10. He was the only one from our ward so it was
just our family and a few ward members back in the room by the font. That was nice.
The only problem was Kaden.
He loves his dad so much and really wanted to go up and sit with Ryan
during the program in the sacrament room.
But he wouldn’t stay sitting, he would get down and wander around and
try to climb on the stage. He was not
necessarily noisy, but Dylan was completely distracted by him, trying to play with
him, and not listening. So I took him
out a couple of times, but then he wanted to go back in and I wanted to hear
the messages as well. Eventually Cheryl
took him out for the remainder of the program.
But then back at the font he was very loud and not reverent at all. He wanted Ryan again. Ryan told me I had to find a way to keep him
quiet during the baptism. So that’s
mostly what I remember. Struggling with
Kaden. I gave him a sucker which
worked. He was quiet for the
baptism. Then he was antsy while we
waited for them to get dressed and come back to the room for the
confirmation. And I had to pull out
another sucker to get through the confirmation without him screaming and
pushing away from me to go beg Ryan to hold him. Luckily I happened to have two suckers in my
purse, which I put in months prior and never, ever use. But we were desperate.
All in all, it was a great blessing and he had a very special
day. Dylan got this little book filled
with notes from everyone who came. We
love it!
We were so happy to have so many family members come to
celebrate with us!
Don’t mind Sadie in this picture. She had a moment (a long moment). But it is what it is! We sure love all our family!
We had to give Sadie a few minutes to calm down so we got a
family shot at home. Love them!
Dylan’s birthday was only a week before his baptism so I
just did cupcakes for his birthday party and made him this cute cake for his
baptism.
We also had sandwiches and salads and Italian Cream Sodas
for lunch. It was a beautiful day
(though windy because it is always windy, that’s just a given).
We are very proud of Dylan and the boy he is becoming. I love seeing my kids growing into more
independent little people and gaining more responsibility. I look forward to Dylan receiving the
priesthood and passing the sacrament!
