The girls got to go on a Daddy-Daughter date to a dance at
the school. It was put on by the
PTO. A month or two before they held a
Mother-Son game night that Dylan and I attended and we had fun playing card
games, visiting with friends, and eating a LOT of treats. (Dylan wanted to make
himself sick, I wanted him to have fun without my lectures). The girls received a chocolate rose. And they got to dance with Ryan and their
friends. It sounded fun!
I’ve been meaning to take the kids ice skating for a long
time! We tried to go once over Christmas
Break and they were closing shortly after we got there (we went on the only day
they closed early in the week). So I
asked Ryan to stay with Kaden so I could take them. Dylan opted out. I was disappointed that he didn’t want to go
try something new, but later decided he probably would not have loved it and
would have been begging to leave before the rest of us were ready.
The girls enjoyed it!
It is COLD! Ha ha, I mean my nose
was red and my fingers were freezing.
Sadie did well with her assist.
Without it she was kind of all over.
Kylee did well and had a really fun time. I haven’t been ice skating since I was like
13 and I was a little rusty, and nervous to fall because I’m not as young as I
used to be. But we did good. Kylee wanted to stay for hours. Sadie took a few harder falls, and needed to
sit down to rest and warm up a few times, but she never wanted to leave. She kept coming back out on the ice. Her arms are not used to being worked so much
and I think she got really tired! She
didn’t recognize the weakness in her arms, but she was tired and sore the next
day. Kylee wanted to go again, but the
rink closed the following week. I’m glad
we got out once and hope to go again next year!
Kaden loves cars and trucks and all automobiles. He was enjoying a train set at my friends
house and I thought he might enjoy the train we had for Dylan when he was 2 or
3. Dylan brought it up for me, I put the
track together and put some new batteries in, and voila! The best toy Kaden has ever seen! He loves it.
LOVES it. He likes to break the
track though, and then begs me to make him more. But I love watching him play with it, and
pushing different cars around on the track.
He loves the tunnel. He loves the
caboose. It’s just a fun toy. I’m glad I saved it! Because Dylan didn’t like cars much and I got
rid of most of the stuff cluttering up his room that he never used. But Dylan did enjoy this track a little, and
so did any friends that came to our house.
So I saved it.
Kylee did swim team at the Apple in January and
February. Her swim meet was the
beginning of March. She’s a good little
swimmer! She won most of her heats. The one girl that beat her is an amazing
swimmer who has competed in more competitive leagues. I was super proud of her.
She told me about this girl who came up to her the first
day, put her arm through Kylee’s, and just started talking. Kylee was like, “do I know her?” Then she told Kylee her name was Charly and
they ended up being good friends the whole session. How fun is it to have really outgoing kids that
can make friends so easily. Kylee is not
like that, but she enjoys people who are!
Ryan helped coach Dylan’s bball team the second
session. They had split into two teams
for the second session because there were so many boys. They all practiced together. And three of them played on both teams,
showed up to both games. Occasionally
another player would cover for someone on the other team. It was fun.
We had a little party at the end of the season and at the last minute,
Ryan and I decided to get trophies for all of them. We only really did it because we wanted to
contribute something to the party and the other coaches were bringing pizza and
popsicles. And Sadie’s coach had gotten
her team trophies. Ryan said they needed
to have something on them to make them more than just a “participation”
trophy. So he quickly came up with accomplishments
for each player and we had them printed that same day for the party that
night. Some examples were “Defensive
Stopper” (Dylan) or “Mr. Triple Double” (Tyson) or “Pick Pocket King” (Zach). They presented them to each boy and talked
about his improvements or accomplishments at the party. I didn’t get to stay the whole time because
Kaden was being a nightmare (I mean, 2-year-old). So I only heard a little of it, but it seemed
like the boys really liked it.
I did a gym triathlon, on my own, just for fun. Because it was a Saturday without any sports
and I had time! I swam about 2/3 a mile,
went to a spinning class that put me at like 18 miles on the bike, then ran for
4 (I think? Maybe 5) This little collage was for my fitness group.
Then I had Ryan take the family out to Red Robin to FEED me!
And so I wouldn’t have to cook! I love
the weekends. I do a lot to keep our
schedules running smoothly throughout the week.
I love having date night or pizza night on the weekends, even though I
don’t eat the pizza. I don’t have to
cook!
Kylee’s first volleyball tournament ended up being a
double. We got there at 7:30 and didn’t
leave until almost 5. Okay, I left. I left during one of her off-matches to go do
the grocery shopping and pick up some lunch for her. I was gone for a couple of hours. I brought Averi back with me so she could
watch Kylee play. Averi is such a chill
girl. I love that they are BFFs. Averi’s mom played volleyball in high school
so she came to watch for awhile and hang out as well. Averi was there for five hours with us!
I was dying by the end.
We were sitting on bleachers and I forgot to grab our little chair with
the back to help me out. My lower back
was crying!
Volleyball is fun, but I am going to make her choose between
that and soccer next time. I don’t like
doing both. And I’m going to push her
towards soccer because it is SO much more fun to watch and play!
I watched my friend’s 2-year-old one morning. She’s a few months older than Kaden. They were cute! I had to take Sadie to gymnastics so I
brought a video for them. It didn’t keep
her attention for very long though.
The weather got to like 50 degrees and the kids all thought
it was picnic weather!
The wind made it chilly, which is why we were hiding behind
this fence. But we were at the park and
eating lunch before sending Sadie off to school. Kaden sure loves the park!!
He was saying constantly, “go park, Mommy?” Even when it was freezing, or night time, or
whatever. He always wanted to be there.
St Patrick’s Day. I
wasn’t too excited about St Patrick’s Day.
And we were actually leaving that morning to start driving to California
for Spring Break so the kids hadn’t even thought about St Patrick’s Day. But I was at Walmart anyway, so I decided to
grab a few green things for the leprechaun to leave. I happened to get these John Deer toys in the
mail a few days before and I thought they would be perfect for Kaden, who can’t
enjoy gum and doesn’t appreciate the novelty of Lucky Charms (something I would
NEVER buy usually).
Also, I thought I was being clever getting them things they
could use on the drive. But they didn’t
love the fruit sticks (well, they had kale, what did they expect?) And they
only used their notebooks for like two minutes.
But the gum was a hit.
Kaden is always on my lap during prayers. He’s tried to sit on Ryan’s lap, but Ryan’s knees
won’t let him sit down on his feet. I’m
not really sure how that works. But I
have no problem with it. So Ryan is up
tall without a lap, and Kaden is always sitting on my lap. The kids will often try to coax him into
sitting on one of their laps, but he rarely does. His prayer face is so funny, Ryan decided to
snap a picture as we were waiting for someone to start praying. Kaden heard Ryan’s ‘shutter’ on his phone and
opened his eyes, ha ha.
So stinking cute.
He likes to be carried up and down the stairs because he’s
lazy. This day he was sitting at the
bottom of the stairs yelling, “mom-my! Too high!” He knew he was being a stinker, ha ha.
Sadie was playing Twister, so Kaden joined. Kids are so fun.
