The highlight of the school year for me was the 6th
grade Broadway production. Heather
Maddux, their music teacher, is passionate about music and Broadway. And she somehow got all these 12-year-olds to
dress up (some less excited than others) and sing and dance to show tunes! She makes it fun. And the kids had a great time. I know, because Heather asked me to come and
take some pictures so they would have some memories. So I got to see this show THREE times! Rehearsal the day before, the performance for
the school in the morning, and the final performance for the parents that
afternoon. It was all fabulous, but of
course the best part was hearing Kylee sing.
There were a handful of students that had solo parts. Kylee got to sing the first few lines of “This
is Me” which happens to be our favorite, most touching song. Honestly, I cried. Many times, not just when Kylee sang. Hearing all those kids sing about seizing the
day, and being who they are with no apologies.
It was powerful and amazing and I loved it!!!
McKinley Lowry sang “Don't Rain on my Parade”. She did the whole song solo and she did great!
These girls sang a small part of "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" Most of the time the whole group sang it.
This was one of my favorites, "Do Re Mi". Sadee Steele sang Julie Andrews parts and she was so great! The rest of the Van Trap kids were scattered throughout the group of singing kids and would pop up whenever their "notes" were sang. So cute. Loved it! I wish I could just post the videos but it would be too big.
These girls tap-danced to "Singing in the Rain"
Newsies!! These boys sang the solo parts and the rest of the group joined in. Then a bunch of people did some dancing and it was really fun. Kylee hopped in the dance last minute just because she wanted to and her friend Kayla wouldn't be there for the final performance so she took her place. She had a lot of fun.
"One for all and aaaaaaall... FOR ONE!"
"I Won't Grow Up" Is really fun. These kids got to act goofy like lost boys and it was funny.
Conner Mecham sang a solo of the first verse of "A Million Dreams". And then Kylee got to do her solo of "This is Me". She not only sang the first verse, but she got to sing the powerful parts in the middle like "we are Warriors!" And also where it slows down (in the movie everyone jumps in the air and time stops except for Keala singing) she sings that alone, then everyone jumps in again to finish. And on the last note, Kylee throws her hands out like a star, just as the lights go out to end the show. It was so awesome.
What a way to end your middle school career. These are great kids. Even if some of them are already too cool. They sure look cute all dressed up!
So glad Grandma and Grandpa and Ryan could come see it!
