June was a bit chilly! It wasn't bad, just didn't really get hot yet. Because of that, my garden did awesome! I had huge heads of broccoli and cabbage. Everything else is really healthy. June was the perfect growing temperatures. Good for soccer too, but not much swimming.
First off, school finally ended. Last day of school pics!
Kylee and I did the Inflatable 5K, but it was more like a 3K. Jen and Averi did it with us this year. Jen and I were pretty tired for whatever reason (our training is pretty tough) so we just jogged and went on the inflatables multiple times. Kylee and Averi tried to stay ahead of us the whole time and sprinted at the end to make sure they "beat" us. Fun event, just wish it was closer to a 5K. Averi and Kylee were matchy so Jen and I matched too, haha.
Sadie did a basketball camp as soon as school was out. She was ready to have some down time, but she had fun at the camp anyway. I took this picture as I was coming up the stairs because she was sitting on her coaches lap. She's so sweet and cuddly. She also won one of the games they played, fastest dribbler. Or took second I think. Brynlee won first I believe. Basketball season can't come soon enough!
Voice recital finally! Funny story. Heather told me the day the recital was, but not the time. I put it on my calendar at like 4:00. And there it stayed. I thought 4:00 was a bit of strange time, but I was happy it was then because Kylee had a tournament game in Rexburg that night she needed to be at. So I get my girls all ready, tell Ken and Cheryl to be there, and we show up at the school at 4:00. Of course it's deserted and the doors are locked. I started texting Heather and found out she was in Cori Kirby's class (kindergarten teacher, and Kylee's bestie's mom). So they let us in and we talked for a minute and finally she said, "well I have the gym all set up so we could do a mini show for you and your inlaws." And so we did! It was kind of awesome. Especially since Ken has tinnitis in his ear and has a hard time hearing loud music for long. The theme was show tunes. Kylee sang her Greatest Showman song (yet again) "This is Me." Sadie sang a song from Annie "Maybe". It was sad and cute.
Sadie is part of the group lesson and she got special treatment to be able to sing a solo this time. But she also sang "Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" with the group. Obviously the group wasn't there so Kylee sang it with her. It was really cute. Sadie was able to go to the real show later. Kylee and I were at her soccer game.
We are so glad that Grandma and Grandpa could see the show! And me too.
Heather is the best!
Lower Palisades Lake again, this time with some friends. I never get sick of this trail! This time I didn't have to slow down to step around water and mud. So I tried to go fast and beat my time by a minute or two. Still not quite enough to take the third place spot on Strava though. Maybe someday, lol.
It may have been chilly in the mornings, but the lake was warm enough to swim! There was steam coming off of it when we first got there though! I love swimming the lake! It's harder when your body is worn out though! I feel like I'm pushing my limits a bit this year with my workouts. But I know when to slow down and when to push.
Liza was leaving to St. John's to get married! So we planned a little bachelorette bash for her before she went. We went to an escape room. This was my first time and it was fun! We finished with only like one hint and 20 minutes to spare.
Dylan finally joined me in Webelos! Technically this day camp was a few days before his birthday. But the thing is, last year his Wolf group went to day camp after his birthday so he had moved to Bears and his Bears group didn't go at all. So he didn't get to go last year. And if I hadn't brought him with me and my group, he would've missed again because the Bears went in July. So I just brought him and counted it even though it was a few days early.
We went to Pocatello instead of Krupp Scout Hollow. Because they had so many more of the required badges and they got SO MUCH done! Krupp Hollow was doing mostly electives and my boys didn't need any more electives. The only problem was that Pocatello was further away. And that it was a two day thing, with the option of staying the night. We opted to not stay the night, which meant we drove home at like 10:45 the night before and left again at 7am to get back. That made for some tired boys, but I know they wouldn't have gotten much sleep if we had camped either. I enjoy hanging out with these boys!
Kylee got to go on The Trek! (I heard the proper term is THE trek, not just trek.) I've always heard that they only take 14-18 year-olds but this year they invited anyone in 6th grade and up, 12 or turning 12. Kylee was excited! She sewed her aprons and skirts with Grandma, which was awesome because I was clueless. Grandma also sewed the bonnets for her. Thank heavens! I packed everything on the list for her, knowing full well that she probably wouldn't even use half of it, and I sent her off with some of my good friends knowing she was in good hands. But I wished I could've gone. I like history. I like hiking and doing hard things. I like all of that stuff. I didn't get called. Well, maybe in a few year (or five) they will get to go again and I can get myself called then :) Some of these pictures were sent to me from a friend since I obviously wasn't there.
Grit League! Something I look forward to. Kylee and Dylan were in the competitive groups. I signed Sadie up to run with Dylan just because I didn't want to be there for four hours every week. But she did not like the competitive older kids. So she ended up staying with Jen and ran with Cambry every week. That was much more her speed and she enjoyed it. I love seeing these kids do hard things and have fun doing it! Little Spartans in the making.
Armless burpees are some of Dan's favorite ways to torture them. He makes us do them at Spartan training sometimes too. And we are not as flexible as these kids!
I had been trying to get to the temple all month and for some reason it hadn't worked out. Probably because of soccer and trek and all that. So I thought it would be a good time to go when we were driving to Boise for our Spartan! We stopped at the Twin Falls temple and it was closed for two weeks. So we drove on to Boise and ended up at the Meridian temple. (And a nice man took our picture but didn't get much of the temple in it, but did get his finger.)
We conquered the Spartan! More on that later!I got back from Boise and had like 45 minutes to clean myself up for Liza's Garden Party. She was married on a secluded beach in the Virgin Islands, which was so perfect for her! So she had a party when she got home that we got to go to and hang out. She is a beautiful bride and I'm so happy for her!
Our first trip to the lake! It was finally warm enough.
He tries, but it's rare for him to be able to stay awake all day long. Sleep is just so good...
Dylan earned his Bear. Kaden loves it when the boys get to go on a bear hunt! He hears the bear growling and he is sure it's out there somewhere. Kariesa sent me a picture of a bear on her brother in law's property in Montana or something so I showed Kaden that. For a week straight he told every person we came across about the bear at scouts and wanted me to pull out my phone to show them. He's so funny.
Dylan has a busy mind. One night he took some post-it notes downstairs to write down ideas for his YouTube channel. This is what I found later. He's nuts.
I've been wanting to hike Table Rock for years! I have been asking Ryan to take me. We decided on this day, June 30. Everyone says you need to go in July or August. Well, it was literally one day before July! But yeah, I get why they say that. There was a lot of snow. lol.
The day before we were planning to go, Kaden came down with a fever. I thought there was no way we could leave all morning long and have Kylee babysit when he was so sick. I pictured him crying and wanting us and not seeing us for hours. But Ryan said Kylee will be fine with him. I set out some medicine with explicit instructions and told Kylee to call Grandma if there were any problems. The only other thing was that I had done a legs/glute workout a day before and my muscles were SO sore! But I wasn't going to tell Ryan that. He would be mad at me for killing myself before our planned adventure. We woke up at 4am to leave. Kaden came out of his room to go potty and I could feel that he was still fevering. But he went back to bed. We found out later that he stayed in bed until nearly 10:00! That never happens! I mean, he's a pretty easy-going kid in the mornings but he doesn't usually stay in bed that late. So it turned out great. The kids were fine. Ryan knew the way to the top (because I would've definitely gotten lost as soon as we hit the snow). But it was so cloudy that we couldn't actually see the Tetons. Bummer! It was pretty cool though. I did get a few glimpses of them when the clouds would move. It was a bit disorienting though.
We hiked up the Face with the intention of jogging down the Huckelberry side. But when we were closer to the top Ryan said he had a feeling we should stick to Face. He was worried there might be snow covering the trail, or too much water. Just not knowing what we were up against made him nervous. We were the first ones up there that morning, but as we were coming down from the very top we passed a couple other solo guys and they both told us they came up Huckleberry and it was not good. There have been avalanches that have knocked trees down covering the trail in many places. One guy showed us a picture and said he had to climb over the trees and he fell and scraped up his head. That was all we needed to know. We stayed with the Face, even though it was very steep and Ryan slipped a handful of times. My hiking shoes treated me better and I only slipped once or twice. The climb is over 4000 ft in 5 miles or less. I'm glad I can do things like this with my husband! Though he said he would need a few years before he wanted to do it again, lol.
Later that night, after Table Rock, Kylee's soccer team had an end-of-year party with a bbq and swimming even though it was really not warm at all. Kids don't care!
We also have Dylan's birthday that I will get to. June is busy!!!!
