Sept/Oct 2021

September is nice.  The weather is nice, school is in session.  Being PTO President, I had a few things I had to work on during the first two months of school.  The first was a book fair party, which included this bubble party (though the bubbles were planned and carried out by someone else, I just had to sell concessions and books and find enough help).  I also had to plan meals for the teachers for Parent Teacher Conferences, hold public PTO meetings each month (along with presidency meetings whenever needed) and plan and carry out the Fall Carnival, which was the biggest activity and the most work.

Kaden liked the bubbles but didn't want to get in them and get all messy.  He's a practical child.  Josh had no qualms, and he had a blast.

I thought we would still do a lot of trails once the kids went to school.  It turns out it's hard to get away even when all your kids are in school.  We had a day planned but everyone ended up bailing except Kariesa and me.  We changed to a shorter, closer, more well known trail and really enjoyed it!

Sadie and Kaden and I went to Florida, which I posted about.  The day we left it was still gorgeous weather.  The day after we got back, it snowed like 6 inches.  It was one of those break power lines and trees kind of storms.  We shook the snow off these trees as best we could.  Let's just say we weren't super happy that it waited for us to dump to snow.  It lasted for quite awhile before it melted and warmed up quite a bit again.  Silly Idaho weather.

Kaden drew our family in stick figures at church.  I had to laugh and cry about how Kylee is taller than me.

After all the planning, the Fall Carnival came.  I have to say, it turned out pretty great.  I had originally wanted to do it outside.  I know it's often cold at random times (see snow pic above) but I figure if you're having fun it doesn't matter if it's a little chilly.  Well, reality set in when I realized we were doing it in late October instead of September.  We got a little bullied into letting the book fair happen in September which is when we usually would have done the carnival.  I didn't know any better, but now I do.  It worked out well to have it inside anyway.  The teachers had their booths set up in their classrooms.  I hired the East Idaho Aquarium to bring some animal friends for an hour.  I felt strongly that this would be a big hit.  A few years before they had creepy crawlers in the library and it was really cool.  I found out those had come from Boise and I contacted him to see if he would come and he wanted $150 for travel expenses.  I don't blame him, but that is a lot for our little budget.  Plus $100 as his regular fee.  Someone told me the aquarium will bring things and I was skeptical because I didn't know what kind of creepy crawlers they had, but it turns out they had a lot!  I got to choose which animals came and I chose a ferret (for Sadie), a tarantula (for Kaden), and a python (for everyone because he's so cool!)  I was right, it was a huge hit.  We also made a lot of money for the teachers so that was a plus.

Ryan took Kaden to go watch USU play football.  They had a fun day together driving down there and hanging out.  It was a good game too so that made it fun.

Brandon Mull came to the kids school.  He has done this before, but none of my kids cared as much as Sadie did this time.  They all read Fablehaven and Dylan read Dragonwatch too, but I think the timing just never worked out for them to care much.  Sadie got the 4th Dragonwatch for Christmas last year and was looking forward to the last one coming out now.  So she begged me to take her to get the book and have it signed.  We came pretty early but we still had to wait in line for almost two hours.  Who knew he was so popular?  Sadie was happy though.
