I was asked to be chairman of the Warrior Run for the kids' school. I enlisted Sherri as my co-chairman. We were told it was just a community event and not a fund raiser so it should have been really easy. But it ended up being a little more complicated than we had planned. In the end it wasn't a big deal and I had the help I needed. It was just on the day after I got back from Seattle and I also had an ortho appointment and scouts that day. I had told Dan (our Spartan coach, the guy who runs Grit League, and the guy that puts on these obstacle races) that Sherri and Jen and I would help him set up so he wouldn't need to hire other people. It was a fun event but I don't feel like I was the best at organizing everything. I had asked a bunch of people to step in to help, but some of them didn't end up being needed really. We were kind of scrambling to get people at the obstacles. I forgot to bring my water jug and the kids were wasting the water so we had to go refill the water jugs a few times. BUT the kids had fun. By the time we were cleaning up it was dark and I was pretty beat. It was fun that Kaden got to run it because he has seen the kids run Grit League all the time and he never gets to.
Kylee wanted to run it but she had a soccer game.
More braces stuff. We were trying to get her teeth all figured out so she can get the braces off before her baptism pictures.
Cheryl had a birthday in August and we all got together to hang out and celebrate with dinner and cake.
Our Chapman's League came to an end. I was sad, I had enjoyed spending that time with Ryan and trying to improve my golf game. Ryan took a couple videos of my swing trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. There are so many small things that can mess you up, who knows what my problem is.
Our neighbor's cat started hanging out at our house. And then it stayed. He's been chilling with Jax and eating his food and he's basically ours now. The neighbors don't seem to care. I think they have like 20 pets. And when my kids mentioned to their kids that their cat stays in our backyard they said, "we don't care, we got a new one anyway." So I think we should name him and accept it. Maybe when the temperatures drop he will head back indoors at his own house. He's sure pretty though!
Soccer, soccer, soccer. I love it. Dylan is on a good team and he's doing well. It's been fun to watch. They're finally competing and playing real games. It's kind of funny because of the drama that happened in the Spring. They ended up doing two teams and Dylan was not on the team with the coach who had originally cut him. He wasn't on a team with McCord as the coach either. His pediatrician Dr Hatch ended up coaching. The other team was basically hand-picked by the other coach. So technically we got the leftovers. But we have some great players! We 'scrimmaged' against the other team just for fun and beat them by a couple points. That was satisfying. But I'm not holding a grudge.
Kylee started on the Jr High Team. There were enough girls that they had a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team. Strangely, the coach decided to pull Jerzey and Willow up to the 8th grade team. The coach was the same guy that had helped coach their team the years previously so he knew them. He's also the same coach that is going to coach the premiere team when that starts. I don't know who decided which division to put us in, but we should've been in bronze and we weren't. We got killed. Every game. It was ugly. Kylee, Averi and Julia were the only ones that knew what they were doing. By the end of the season there were a handful of girls that did ok. And they switched us to bronze at the halfway point so we were more evenly matched but we still lost. Kylee and Averi would say "I miss Thunder!!" It's just annoying because we would've been just fine if we had Willow and Jerzey. I don't know why he moved them up.
Cross country was really fun according to Kylee! I liked watching her run. She does so good! I admire her. I don't like to run that fast. I'm sure she could beat me on these 1.5 - 2 mile runs. She got closer to a 7:11 pace on these last races.
She really got the hang of the sprint finish. She sprinted past Averi a couple times in the end, which was really frustrating to Averi. Averi beats Kylee at practice a lot.
During our photo session Ryan took some pictures with his phone that were fun while I was working with one kid at a time.
And here were the faces I had to work with! It wasn't easy! These two are goofballs.
