After we got our stuff to our room, we saw on the schedule that it was low tide. That is the best time to see creatures, so we headed down to the beach to explore. My friend had found a lot of sand dollars, and they seemed easy to find. But I wanted to see a starfish (or sea star, as they are now called). I told the kids the first to find a sea star would get a prize. I really didn't think we would find them that easily. We started walking and exploring, seeing clams stuck on the rocks. There were lots of anemone too.
We came to this section with rocks that went out into the water. Dylan asked if he could go out on it to explore. I told him yes, and I would stay back so I could take a picture of them out on the end of it.
Kaden and I were just hanging out exploring and waiting, when all of a sudden there were loud splashes coming from where Dylan had been walking. Turns out, there were a ton of seals laying on the rocks that we hadn't even seen. I had not been thinking about seals because I heard they are there in the morning, and it was evening. There were probably a dozen over there, and maybe 5-6 of them jumped in the water when Dylan got too close. They swam out a bit to the rock further out (on the left of the rocks jutting out in the above picture) and climbed up on those. I don't know what Dylan was thinking, he had froze when they all moved. But there was one stubborn or lazy seal that decided to stay put. I told Dylan to back away from it. We decided to take a picture on this tall rock instead of the end rocks. And then I walked over to them. They had found a starfish.
So that was all very exciting! Kaden also got his shoes all wet, and they took days to dry since they are thick shoes and it is so humid there. But we had fun exploring!
The next morning, Kylee and I had left for a run and Ryan wanted to go explore. Sadie was the only one that wanted to go with so they went out for a walk. This was the really foggy morning.
It's definitely a beautiful area! Just like we had always heard.
