Kids triathlon

One of our favorite things each summer!  Kids Tri Harder Triathlon.
Sadie did the MINI: 25 yard swim (across the pool once), Bike once around the block, Run once around the parking lot.

This is the last year she is young enough to race this shortest distance so I let her do it because I wanted her to enjoy it.  But later she told me she could've gone further.

It's so fun to watch my kids race.  Sadie is quite competitive.  She ran so hard because she wanted to catch up to the kid in front of her, which she did.  I believe they tied across the finish line.  She also refused to wear any sort of flotation help in the swim.  This is her first year learning to swim across the pool and she wanted to do backstroke and she did just fine.

Dylan did the MEGA: 100 yard swim ( two full laps), Bike four times around the block (probably more than a mile?), Run four laps around the parking lot (probably more than 1/2 mile)
This is the first year he has done this longer distance, double what he did before.

Dylan had just turned 9, and the age recommendations are for kids 9 and under to do the Super.  So there weren't that many younger kids in the Mega.  Dylan worked hard!  I like that he did something hard for him.  He was so tired by the end!

Kylee did the EXTREME: 200 yard swim (four full laps), 4 mile bike, 1 mile run
When I asked Kylee if she wanted to try the extreme this year, she was like "we swim 200 yards as a warm-up every day at swim club."  Okay then!  She's kind of a rock star.  She said 4 miles wasn't too far on a bike.  And she had already ran a 5K so a mile didn't seem hard either.

Kylee was very tired by the end!  She said the bike was the hardest.  Because it was longest.  And there was a hill.  I'm proud that she wanted to try the harder distance.  I still have some hope that she will do the Bengal triathlon with me this coming April.  We will see.

They are so cute with their medals!!  I'm so glad they enjoy this sport that I love!  And this event is a great one.  They have a pancake breakfast and a bunch of little fair-type games to keep them entertained while waiting for others to finish.  Michael Hayes started this event along with many others in the area.  He passed away this summer, so I hope his legacy can continue.
