Meet Peaches

It's no secret that Ryan doesn't love our cat.  He had bunnies growing up, not cats.  In fact, he blames the death of one bunny on his neighbor's cat (and Sara since she apparently left the bunny out).  We've talked about getting a bunny.  Ryan has Sadie begging for a bunny, but his excuse was always that we had to wait until the cat is gone (either dead or dropped off somewhere).  Of course we all love Jax so that isn't an option.  Though Sadie has talked about a bunny for a long time and has turned against Jax now (just in words, she still feeds him and loves on him, promise.)

One day in August (the 17th to be exact), we get a knock on our door from three cute neighbor girls carrying this gray bunny and asking if we want a free bunny.  Sadie answered the door and came running into my room talking a million miles an hour rambling about a free bunny and please, please, please can we have it???

Turns out our neighbors the Hollands got a puppy and decided they didn't want the bunny any longer.  They said we could have the cage and food and everything too.  I told Sadie she had better call Dad and ask.  I didn't hear his side of the conversation, but on our end Sadie's voice kept getting higher and higher with excitement as she said "yes, yes".  And she started jumping around.  So I guess that's a yes.  You've never seen a happier girl.

Kaden had just woken up from his nap and thought the bunny was pretty cool too!

We decided to name her Peaches.  Her previous name was Fancy, which was a fine name, but for some reason Peaches came to my mind and Sadie liked it.  We didn't know it then, but a couple weeks later when we got some peaches, we found out she actually loves peaches!
Courtney called me a little after the girls left her with me just to verify it was okay.  And then asked if I wanted this bigger cage (we had already grabbed the carrying case and food).  This is EXACTLY the type of cage Ryan always talked about getting for the future bunny and we weren't sure how we would fine one.  It's cute, huh?
Ryan wanted the bunny to have some space to run around.  Since our yard has holes to sneak out of the fence, we can't let her just roam the backyard unsupervised.  So Ryan made an enclosure for her.
She's super soft, super cute, doesn't actually love to be picked up, but does okay once she calms down.  She will thump her foot at the cat.  Jax isn't sure what to think of her.  He got up close and sniffed at her, but acts scared of her.  When she's hopping around the yard, he will sometimes stalk her.  She's no fool.  She sees him, and thumps at him.  Once she was out and a dog started barking- she bolted back to her cage and hid.

We are not sure how well she will do this winter.  She has a heating coil around her water so that should be good.  But we aren't bringing her inside so I hope we can figure out the snow and sub zero temperatures.
