June

Kylee, Sadie and Kaden were all signed up to play in the Yellowstone Cup at the beginning of June. Kaden was playing up to 9v9 for the first time with the Claret team (he had been playing on my team until then).  Jason and a couple other teammates got to play up as well. They did well but ended up losing the final.  They keep coming in second at all these tournaments! 

Kylee's team did well and they won.  I want to say the last game came down to PKs?  But they win all the time so this was nothing new.

Sadie's team played one game and she was hanging out with her teammates in between games while I was watching Kylee play and the car she was in got in a car accident.  It was a pretty bad one.  We are really blessed that she didn't get hurt worse.  One of her friends fractured her pelvis because she was sitting on the side where the impact happened, and it was literally just behind Sadie.  Another friend hit her had hard enough to have a really bad concussion.  Everyone else seemed to be fine but Sadie had a burn on her neck from the seat belt.  And she had banged heads with her friend.  There were like 7 of them in that car.  After all that her team pulled out of the tournament.  Even if everyone else seemed fine, they were still all a little shaken up and sore.

When the club heard about the car accident, they sent gifts.  They sent Sadie these cute mini bundt cakes

I got to have dinner in Salt Lake with my friends at a really fancy restaurant STK but Karlee worked for the company that does real estate for restaurants or something and she got our meal for free.  Then we stayed the night in a hotel and chatted.

 

Our first hike of the season was Menan Butte.  Not our usual style but it worked.

I was playing Ladies League with Michelle Sayer again but she missed a few days so Kehau came to be my partner one day!

This cat just loves to be in my way when I'm trying to garden.  He's sweet though.

Dylan had his birthday while we were in London, but the rest of the family stepped up and made it special for him!  They planned a little surprise party for him.  So grateful for family around.

Kylee's team played in their very last tournament.  They won so that was a fun way to end.  But man there were a lot of emotions!  It has been so fun watching these girls play for so many years.  Kylee was pretty emotional but mostly due to the frustration that this season was not what she had wanted it to be because of her torn hamstring.  She could no longer play in her regular position so she basically had to learn a new position which involved sitting out quite a bit when she's not used to sitting at all.  She was still able to do her handspring throw-ins so that was fun, though never once in any of her time doing them did her team ever score from it!  Moving on is hard.  But there are exciting things coming up in her life and now her hamstring might actually have a chance to heal.

Paris- Eiffel Tower

Last but not least, Kylee and I went to see the Eiffel Tower and take some photos.  Ryan was the one who felt like staying behind this time.  Kylee and I had fun taking a bunch of pictures. Next time I will know all the good spots and it won't be closed for the Olympics!

I was hesitant to run in Paris, since it's a big city and all.  But the path next to the Seine seemed perfect and there were lots of people out running and it was pretty easy to get to from my hotel so I decided I needed to do it.  I loved it!!  Running in new places is my favorite.  This was on our last day.  I woke up early enough to run and then we had breakfast before calling our Uber (Bolt) for the airport.  Our flight was not early but I had ordered the car with lots of time to spare, and thank goodness I did because the first car we ordered could not fit all three of our suitcases so I had to cancel that and call another.  The second car said our luggage should fit, but he was stuck in traffic.  We watched his little dot barely moving in the traffic by the Eiffel Tower or somewhere.  I was starting to get really anxious!  But he drove really aggressively and got us there in good time!  And luckily we made it through security easily.  The line of carry on bags that needed to be searched was really long and we worried if one of our bags got flagged, we might not make it in time.  But we didn't!  Then I spent our last euros on some Milka chocolate bars at the airport and they are my new favorite chocolate (though apparently they have hazelnuts in them which we found out after Jeff tried one who is allergic to nuts.)

Paris- Louvre (and Notre Dame)

We only had the one full day in Paris so we did a lot, lol.  After we left the Chapel we walked across the Seine and down a bit to the Louvre.  We passed a bakery and got some ham and cheese croissants and some macarons and treats along the way though.  The Louvre is giant!  Some day maybe I'll go inside.  I've been told that it would take years to see every piece of artwork in the place.

Notre Dame was pretty close to Sainte-Chapelle so we walked back over to see it.  It was still not open unfortunately, it has been closed due to a fire for quite some time but I think it was almost ready to open up again.  They showed it in the opening ceremony for the Olympics.

Paris- Sainte-Chapelle

We had a little time to go back to the hotel and drop off our souvenirs we had purchased and Nike clothes and use the bathroom.  Then we had to head over to our appointment at Sainte-Chapelle.  We had to walk further than necessary because this park by our hotel was also closed for the Olympics and we had to walk all the way around it to get to the subway entrance.  I recognized these during the Olympics though! The park was just opposite them across the street.

Sainte-Chapelle is so cool!  I loved it so much more than all the weird stuff in London.  It just felt like London worshiped their monarchy and their Church of England is weird.  But Paris was more about Christ and the Bible.  The stained glass windows showed pictures of the stories throughout the Old Testament and I think the New Testament too.  It was nice to recognize them!

Don't be fooled by this picture, this place was packed.  I used the clean up function on my iphone to edit out all the people but their shadows are still there.  It also took out the benches because people were sitting on them, lol. 

 I think these engravings are Adam and Eve?  They all had different stories on them.
