Getting Kaden back into soccer meant that I had four kids in soccer (and Kaden was also doing flag football). I somehow ended up coaching Kaden, simply because I wanted him to have someone that cared about his improvement and there weren't many options. I don't know that much about coaching but I have watched a WHOLE LOT of soccer and I figured I could handle 8 year olds. The only problem is that my Spring was packed full of things... I was planning a trip to Costa Rica for Ryan and I for our 20 year anniversary and I would miss a couple soccer games while I was gone. I was still PTO president and we were planning the last event for the year along with teacher appreciation, etc. And Girls Camp planning was in full force and I was the camp director for one more year. Kylee's team was also playing in the State League which required them to go to Boise almost every other weekend. Let's just say I missed a LOT of Kaden's games even though I was the coach.
Dylan had to do a "passion project" in Honor's English which required him to do 5+ hours of service (there were a few other options like creating something, etc) and since he does love soccer, I told him he could help me coach Kaden's team. I really loved having Dylan come along and help with the boys. We had a handful of players on Kaden's team that were either really new at soccer, or just really not coordinated... It was rough. We lost. All of the games. But we tried.
This wasn't even a tournament, this was just a regular Saturday. The kids don't always have double headers on Saturdays but this one was packed. Kylee played in Boise so that's where I went. Sadie played two games in Twin Falls so Ryan took her. Kaden had two games at home so Sara took him and another dad on the team coached. And Dylan played in Pocatello so I had to ask a teammate to take him there and back.
But I was in Boise with just Kylee so I went for a nice run in the morning. Unfortunately the river path was flooded in many parts, and there was a marathon/half marathon/10k/5k going on at the same time that I ended up in the middle of even though I tried not to. Oh well! It was just funny because there were volunteers telling me "good job!" because I was passing people (and cause that's just what they say always) but I'm sure the people I was passing were on mile 15 or something and I was on mile 3 so there was a reason I was passing them. It was not ideal but I still enjoyed the day and the scenery and I had enough time for a nice long run.
Kylee's team is really good. They won most of their games. I love watching them play. I love all those girls like they're my own.
Dylan's team is rough at times. They are able to compete against a lot of the teams they are put against, but there are a few players that are rough to watch. And any tournament they entered, they just got beat. I'm glad he gets to play but he gets frustrated. The way that the premier team takes our best players every year is really rough. I'm not sure how they have room to keep taking our players, I guess they are losing players but I don't know.
Sadie's team is really fun to watch and they are really great girls. Sadie doesn't have a lot of confidence on the field and seems to prefer to let her teammates handle things if possible, which is not great of course. She is still one of the smallest out there and I really wish she would grow. But her team wins and it's fun to watch.
Kaden likes football. It's fun when you're winning. Kaden is a good player. He can catch and he can run. It's easier and more straightforward than soccer (I mean, they have to learn plays and stuff but whatever). This day was freezing and snowing but the sun peeked through and it was kind of beautiful!
