Kylee has really grown to love dance. It's so much work, but she does it because she loves it. Many, many early mornings. Dance during soccer season was a lot. But she prepared a solo this year along with the other three dances the team did. She did quite a few tricks in the dances including an aerial. She did a roundoff backhandspring in her solo and after the first competition she was told that she wasn't allowed to do the backhandspring in half-sole shoes. So she got marked down. There are a lot of weird rules in dance. The nail thing is especially annoying (no nail polish, nails cut down to the quick). But it was her favorite part of her solo so she continued to do it. I LOVED watching her solo.
Her friend Kylie Paskett is the one who convinced Kylee to try Knightline. Sadly, Kylie P ended up dropping dance. It wasn't working out with her and the new coach.
Her coach is also a photographer so she took some fun pictures of all the girls! Here are Kylee’s
I'm always torn between doing video or pictures. Of course we needed video of her solo, but you can't put videos in a book. These are still shots from the video I took in Preston.
Being in Preston high school, you have to check out the iconic lockers from Napolean Dynamite.
The only dance I didn't get pictures of was Jazz. I planned to take pictures during the end of year showcase, but that ended up getting cancelled. I did get videos of it, thankfully because I loved it. The song was I'm Back.

Before I move on to ALL the pictures I took, I have to tell the story about performing Military at a basketball game. Kylee came home from school sick. Her fever got up to 103 that afternoon. She texted her coach telling her she was really sick, that she had taken ibuprofen and it hadn't even brought her fever down much. Her coach told her to take Tylenol cause ibuprofen wouldn't bring down her fever. Kylee was like, "I think she still expects me to come..." I was so annoyed. Her coach is a nurse now? Kylee took Tylenol (not because her coach told her to, just because that is our next step every time the fever doesn't respond to ibuprofen). Her coach texted and said, "I know you are sick but the team really needs you and you've already missed a lot because of soccer." I knew Kylee would do whatever she could do, and I told her I would support her and text her coach if she couldn't do it. But she did start to feel well enough to be up and walking around after the Tylenol so she got ready and went. But she was pretty ticked about it and really felt awful. I said, "I hope you pass out on the floor, that would serve her right." She didn't. She did amazing, obviously. Luckily it was Military so they were supposed to have angry, serious faces the whole time. Because I don't think she could've faked a smile. And I don't think she could've done any flips.
In the past her coach has said that the girls still need to be at dance even if they are sick. They can bring a blanket and sit and watch, but they need to be there to see any changes made, etc. But I think that's the stupidest thing because when someone is sick, they need SLEEP. Not waking up at 5am and going to dance. I told her that if she had a fever above 102 that she definitely should not go. She woke up in the middle of the night feeling awful. Her temperature was 105. She texted me to let me know she was turning off her alarm and asked me to text her coach "but be nice". By the time my alarm went off, it was an hour into dance and obviously Kylee wasn't there. I sent the text telling her how bad her fever was and that I wouldn't allow her to go. She never responded. Which I took to mean that she wasn't happy, but who knows. Kylee had to drag herself to some of her classes during this time too. I blame all this on why she took so long to recover. This illness is the one that hit her right before Seattle and she should've been better but she just couldn't kick it, and then it went to her ears- which caused problems even a month later when we were driving to St George and changing elevation. After this whole debacle, I was sure she would choose not to go through all this her senior year. But that was not the case.
Now onto her solo pictures! I will say I hate the background of the ugly Blackfoot gym. But Kylee looks beautiful.
The faces in Military are the best.
Kick was really fun. Kylee has some awesome kicks! She's not as flexible in her leaps and aerial as she would like so she doesn't love these pictures but I love them.
Kylee was shocked to hear her name when they were announcing solo winners! She placed 6th I think, so not enough to go to State but she was shocked that she even got that so that was fun.
