Kaden's Baby Blessing

January 4th we blessed Kaden.  It went really well, and was quite low-key.  It was our first Sunday at 1:00 church.  I mean, we had that time in 2013, and then last year was 9:00 and now we’re back to 1:00.  The reasoning has something to do with ward splits and whatever ward is sharing our building.  I don’t know, but we skipped 11:00 and are back at 1.  I don’t remember the last time we had 11.  It’s been a really long time.  But I’ll be honest, I don’t love 11.  A lot of people do.  It’s too hard with kids because there is no time to eat lunch.  It was always really confusing for my kids when we had 11.  So I don’t mind 1.  It’s a little hectic.  But I am hoping to utilize the crockpot a lot so I don’t have to do much for dinners after church.

Anyway, back to the star of this post.  Kaden is such a sweetheart.

My mother-in-law offered to sew an outfit for Kaden’s blessing since she had the pattern because she had made one for Sara’s baby as well (who happens to be like 5 or 6 weeks older than Kaden).  I was thrilled because I wanted him to wear something special, but I wasn’t excited to pay $50 or more for it.  I had been considering asking friends if anyone had one I could borrow or rent from them.  So when Cheryl said she would sew it, I was very happy.  My girls were blessed in a dress made by my mom.  And Kaden got to wear something made by Ryan’s mom. Dylan was blessed in the summer when it was hot and I felt ok having him in something more casual.

I thought the outfit turned out really cute and it fit really well!  The pants were too big in the waist and I had to pin them so they wouldn’t fall off completely.  But the rest of it was perfect.  He didn’t even spit up on it before the blessing (and only a little bit after :))

My dad and Carol came up and hung out for a bit before church, but they had to take off right after Sacrament meeting because Carol had to drive my dad back to Logan and then drive herself back to Soda Springs because she worked early the next morning.  So we visited with them beforehand.

Then after church we had Jeff and Brooke and the cousins over for dinner.  We also used this time to exchange Christmas presents with the cousins because we had been sick on Christmas.  The kids love playing together.

It was a good day!  Ryan gave a beautiful blessing and also bore a sweet testimony.  Kylee and Dylan both got up to bare their testimonies as well.  I was in the mother’s lounge feeding Kaden at the time and I recognized their sweet voices through the speaker.

We are happy to have Kaden in our family!  The kids really, really love him.  They were all gathered around him in his swing trying to make him smile.  And when he did they all cheered.  It’s very rewarding to earn one of those first baby smiles.  I can’t wait til he really starts giggling.

His skin is not great and I edited the others.  This one shows his spots on his cheek because I didn't bother editing them out.  He sure loves his pacifier!  But he's not absolutely reliant on it, so it's perfect!
