We dropped Sadie and Dylan off with Lyndy before we went to
the meet because I didn’t want to deal with them being bored at the meet the
whole time. Lyndy was kind enough to
watch them for us. My mom drove up from
Salt Lake to watch the meet, so that was cool that she was in town during one
of them.
This is the only meet where I had someone else there to help
so I brought my big camera and got some shots of her performing.
March out
Vault- the vault at this level is really dumb. They just do a handstand and fall. They're supposed to stay stick straight, and who knows what else they judge on.

Kylee did well at the meet.
Unfortunately she was placed in the 9-10 year-old group so she was
competing against girls that were older than her. At the time, I didn’t understand how it
worked. I still don’t. But I guess the group they are put in depends
on how many girls are competing total.
They don’t let 20 girls in one age group and only 5 in another. At least that’s what was explained to me by
another mom later on. So it seems as if
they split them a little differently and Kylee ended up in the older
group. It was a major bummer for us and
here’s why. Though Kylee did great,
taking 3rd place overall and 3rd in a couple of the
events, Lexi (who was in the younger group) took 1st overall. We were thrilled for Lexi. She has gone to every meet I think. And her parents have told me that she really
wanted to get first place. Of course
every girl wants to get first at some point.
Anyway, we were really happy for Lexi.
But Kylee actually scored higher than her in two of the events and had a
higher overall score so if she would’ve been put in the 6-8 year-old group like
she belonged, she would’ve taken first overall.
Major bummer. For awhile I
thought it was somebody’s mistake that landed her in the older group. For some reason they have had her birthday
year wrong a few times, making it look like she’s 11. So I though they must’ve still had it
wrong. So I was bothered that she didn’t
get her first place that she deserved.
But when another mom explained the way they split it, that made more
sense and even though I’m still bummed, at least I know it wasn’t because of an
error. And she scored 3rd
overall against all these 9 and 10 year-old girls!
Her scores were
She did really great! It was nice that Ryan was able to come see a meet, and at one of our favorite places!
Her meet was at 11:00 so I had given her a granola bar and a bag full of
peanut m&ms to tide her over. After
we left the meet we decided to pick up some sandwiches for Ryan and Kylee and I
since we hadn’t had a real lunch. Kylee
didn’t want to eat. She said her stomach
hurt and she couldn’t eat any of her sandwich.
I was bugged. This is why I don’t
usually give her junk food for a snack.
Peanut m&ms are not lunch.
We met my dad and Carol at a park in Logan and ate lunch and
visited while the kids played. Kylee
rode the Ripstick a little, but then came and sat down because her tummy hurt,
then she’d go try something else only to come back because of her stomach. Then she started saying she felt like she was
going to throw up and she looked quite green.
It was about then when we were getting ready to hit the road and make
the drive back home. I gave Kylee a
brown paper bag we had just in case she did lose it. She rarely vomits, but she wasn’t doing well
and it’s better to be safe than sorry. Not 15 minutes into the drive, she lost
it. That’s when I realized that it was
probably not the m&ms, but the stomach flu that Ryan and Dylan had both had
already. Yuck! And how crazy that she was perfectly fine
during her meet? She threw up one more time
an hour later, and then again as we were pulling into our house. And I think once at home that night too. She spent Sunday resting but was really just
fine, and then was back to normal by Monday, though the sight of m&ms made
her a little queasy (lol).
A few days later Sadie started complaining of a stomach
ache. By this time we knew the
drill. We had a bowl ready and we caught
it in time. She was better right after
she threw up and by the next day was back to normal.
Dylan had it the week before. He came home from school looking green and
saying he didn’t feel well. Ryan
happened to be home so I left Dylan home and took Kylee to gymnastics. When I got home I found Dylan on the couch
with his shirt wet and in his hands, and a bowl full of puke next to him. He said he threw up and got some on his shirt
and he called for us but nobody came. So
he went to the bathroom and cleaned up his shirt by himself. Ryan was outside with the other kids and
hadn’t heard him. Dylan is no stranger
to throw-up. I had to laugh that he
cleaned himself up. He didn’t clean up
the couch where he missed the bowl though :-/
This is turning into a really gross detailed post, isn’t it? It’s just rare that our house gets taken out
by the stomach flu.
