Kaden at 5 Months

Kaden really wants to eat real food.  He sits at the table with us and stares at the food.  He watches me put the fork to my mouth.  He reaches for my plate or my drink.  I feel a little bad that I won’t give him anything yet.  But soon enough.  He is going to love food when he finally gets to have some, I just know it.  I decided to let him have a little water in his sippee cup and he thought that was pretty cool.  He bit it and sometimes sucked it.  He drank some water, but mostly played.

He LOVES his toes.  So much.  I love them too.  So much.  It’s so stinking cute.

I found this picture of Dylan when I was looking at him at this age.  I guess he liked his toes too and I thought it was cute back then too, of course!  Camera wasn't quite the same, though.
He is sleeping fine.  For a little while there he was waking at 1-3 am.  And then he woke at 1 and then again at 4 and I am not okay with multiple times a night at this age.  So I was forced to let him cry.  At the beginning of April he went through that phase where he hated his crib and would scream every time I set him down.  That didn’t last long.  He does well now.  But he didn’t like being left to cry in his crib at night.  It only happened two or three times.  I decided I wouldn’t go get him until 4.  So he woke up at 2:30 the first night and I let him cry for about 30 minutes before he fell back asleep.  Then he woke up some time after 4 and I went in and fed him.  He’s very forgiving.  If he’s screaming and you pick him up, he’s immediately calm and happy.  None of that hyperventilating like my other kids used to do.

Anyway, after a few nights he just started sleeping until 5 or later.  And this last week he has been sleeping until 6 or even 7:30 sometimes. (Of course he’s closer to six months now than to five months)  He refuses to be predictable, but we make it work.  I can’t complain.  He goes to bed around 8:30-9:30 every night.

At five months he was barely rolling a little.  Not that he wasn’t capable.  He just didn’t care to.  If we occasionally put him on his stomach, he would either just hang out there, get pretty mad, or just roll over like it was nothing.  He rolls over to his side all the time especially when he’s laying on his play gym.  He likes to get the little spinny toys on the side.  He will occasionally roll all the way over.

He loves his saucer toy.  It’s in the kitchen so he can watch me while I cook.

It’s adorable and he has a lot of fun in it.  But he eventually starts crying.  I need to get a better picture of him in it.  He’s having fun with a lot of the toys that I’ve had since Kylee was born.  Which is really nice.  Because we have too many toys to buy him anything new for a long time.

He’s not sitting very well yet.  I remember Kylee sitting well long before six months.  Dylan too.  Sadie was slower and barely sitting at six months.  I am going to guess it has to do with size.  Sadie and Kaden are littler than Kylee and Dylan were.  So it must be harder when you’re smaller.

He still has not cut a tooth, though he’s been working on it for a couple months now.  He still spits up, but it’s not all the time.  It’s more random, which is good and bad.  It doesn’t happen as often, but when it does I am not as prepared.  Hopefully that will stop sooner than later.  It took longer for Dylan to stop.

My friend Camille helped me decorate Kaden's room.  I still need to hang up a couple of things, but I thought this part turned out super cute.

Lately Kaden has reminded me more and more of Kylee as a baby.  Ryan says, “how can you remember?”  Well, I just keep getting flashbacks.  Not only do they look alike, but the looks he gives and how he studies things just reminds me of Kylee.  I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy.  But for kicks I pulled out some pictures of the kids at five months old or so to compare.  You be the judge.

He's a happy child, but a mama's boy!  I wish I could bottle up the feeling of his tiny arms wrapped around my neck.  He even gives me slobbery open-mouth kisses on my cheeks.  Dylan used to do that, but Dylan was a lot more aggressive and usually ended up biting me.

Falling asleep in my arms.  Priceless.

I'm lucky to get to hang out with these two all day long.
Well, I have to do his six month update here in another couple weeks so perhaps there will be more to say then.

My gorilla baby, ha ha.  Love his cuteness!  He is a smiley, happy baby!
