Theater Camp- Moana

I signed Kylee and Sadie up for Theater Camp right before Covid really messed everything up.  I was sure it was going to be cancelled.  There was even a soccer tournament or two that I thought was going to be a problem for Kylee.  But soccer tournaments were all cancelled so that didn't matter.  As we got closer to the camp, they said they had worked it out so they could keep it going so we just went with it!

Kylee auditioned for a main role again.  Last year she had to go on a stage in front of the judges.  This year they had to make videos and send them in.  Kylee sang part of a song from Dear Evan Hansen.  Then they had to say a line in a bunch of different ways.  We also took a video of her doing a roundoff backhandspring just to show her skill.  She did a great job!  She received a "call-back" and was asked to show up in person along with maybe 20 people to audition in person.  Following that audition, she unfortunately wasn't given a big part (or a medium part).  She has a beautiful voice, but she just doesn't know how to act ridiculous on stage, lol.  It doesn't come natural to her.  She could do it, she can learn and follow directions.  But she didn't get the chance on this show.  But she got to be part of the water ensemble with Averi!

Sadie didn't audition for a bigger part (the younger kids never get big parts).  She got to be a villager, got to have a small line.  And after a few days she was asked to be the main gate-monster!  She was so excited.  I have seen Moana and didn't remember any gate monster, but I guess he was there just only for a second and the song was a deleted song.

This is the guy from the movie...
And this was Sadie...

The girls had to wear masks the whole time at camp.  They did not have to wear them on the stage while performing.  The audience had to wear masks.  And we had to reserve our seats in advance to allow for social distancing during the show.  But hey, they got to do it and we got to see it!  They had a lot of fun.  Especially because Averi and Brynlee were doing it as well.  Kylie Paskett did it with Kylee last year but this year she had to do the other camp a couple weeks later so they weren't together.
