Sadie has been so excited to go to Pine Basin ever since she visited her siblings there on Parent Night. The time finally came! And she was so excited but her BFF Lydia said her mom wouldn't let her go. Bummer. So I told her she needed to have another friend that she could go with because I didn't want her going alone. A couple other friends talked about going but then they decided they didn't want to. She finally got a friend Evelyn to commit to going and we agreed on a week and we got on to sign up and... it was sold out! What?! I've done this a couple times in the past and I don't ever remember them selling out or having a hard time getting them in. I was shocked. They had a couple spots open on another week, but Evelyn couldn't do that week. Sadie was going back and forth with excitement and disappointment. When I told her it was sold out, she was really disappointed. I figured it was a good lesson for her, on how to deal with disappointment. And that next year I would get her in earlier. Evelyn's mom mentioned something about a waiting list, so I called the district and they said they could add me to the waiting list. I was number 4 on that specific week. Evelyn's mom called and got number 5. But I told Sadie not to get her hopes up because it probably wouldn't happen.
Imagine my surprise when a few days later I get a text from Evelyn's mom saying she had just gotten the call that there was room. And I'm thinking, I was ahead of her on the list, so why didn't I get a call? Then I saw a missed voicemail. So I got her in, and Evelyn got in. When Sadie came home from school and I showed her the form saying I had paid and secured her spot, she was so excited and said, "I PRAYED for this!!" Well, Heavenly Father listened. And she didn't actually have to deal with disappointment and delayed gratification (though she would disagree because it was like 5 weeks away).
I'll skip to the end and tell you that she didn't really like it and doesn't want to go again, hahahaha. I know, ridiculous huh? Maybe the build up was just too much? Maybe camping just isn't that fun? Kylee and Dylan both agreed that there was a lot about it that wasn't that fun. Too much learning, they said. Well, at least I don't have to worry about trying to get her in next year!

They were assigned to make a fort. They made a pull-up bar.
Sadie and Evelyn. Why is Evelyn so tall? Her parents aren't even that tall...
I feel like she was very responsible while she was there. She wore her hat the whole time. She carried her water bottle the whole time. She even showered a couple times. She wasn't thrilled about the 2 minute showers though.
