Kids Triathlon

We were really happy that the Kids Triathlon was able to happen this year, even though it was a bit different.  We had to wear masks other than when they were racing, and the waves were very spread out so there was less of a crowd (can't say I'm sad about that).  Dylan and Sadie had to move up in distances this year.  Dylan did the Extreme, which is the longest.  It's 200 meters swim (4 laps), 4 mile bike and 1 mile run.  It was very challenging for him.  By the time he was trying to run, he was spent.  But he kept going and worked hard.  There were only four boys doing the extreme, and no girls this year.

Sadie did the Mega, which was 2 full laps of the pool (100 meters), 4 laps around the block on her bike and 4 laps of the parking lot for the run.  She was pretty miserable on the run too.  She looked how I feel on the last mile of a really hard run!  But she did it and I am proud of her!

Kaden has been swimming really well, but he was not able to swim the whole length of the pool yet.  But we didn't want him to have to wear a life jacket, so I asked Kylee to get in the water with him and just help him up when he needed to take a breath.  She walked beside him and put her hand on his chest so he could breath, but that is all.  He did great!  He tore through the race.  He took off on the run and didn't stop until he finished.  Sure, it's not near as far as the other kids had to do but I was so impressed!  He's a competitor!  I was shocked that a couple other kids ended up with faster times than him.  I think it took us too long to get his shoes on his wet feet...

They were all a bit miserable when they were done.  Dylan told me it just wasn't his sport and he didn't want to do it again, which I'm fine with.  By the look on Sadie's face, I'm not sure she will want to do it again either.  But Kaden sure loves it!  Kylee does too but she's too old now.
Their photographer got some of these pictures, and it was fun to show Grandma and I there with them for memories.  Ryan had to take off a little early.
