Yellowstone Cup Soccer Tournament

The Yellowstone Cup tournament is held in Rexburg.  All three kids' teams decided to play.  Kylee's team really wanted to play but they have had so many injuries this year they didn't know if they would have enough.  Her coach did an anonymous survey and he didn't think they had enough.  The girls all wanted to play so badly.  The deadline passed and he said, "sorry, we didn't have enough girls".  Well, I was bummed!  So I did some digging with my connections and found out my friend and neighbor (and director of bysl) knew the lady that was organizing the tournament so he reached out to her and asked if they could fit another 06 girls team.  She said yes, so I reached out to every one of the girls that were capable of playing and found we had 14 girls willing to play.  That's barely enough for a tournament, but they wanted to do it.  So, what I'm saying is, I pulled some strings and made it happen.  You're welcome Xtreme.

I figured it would be good that we had all three kids playing because we would be up there anyway.  And that sounds like a good idea, until you factor in that means 6 games total in one day starting at 9am (with a departure time of 7:45am to get there for warm ups and stuff) and ending at 6pm.  That's a full day of soccer.  Luckily the weather was somewhat cool and comfortable even though it was sunny.  Which ended up causing problems since I didn't think about sunscreen until it was a bit too late.  When I did sunscreen my kids, Sadie was playing a game so I kind of forgot her altogether.  Luckily she's the one child that doesn't burn very easily.  She did, however, get burned on the tops of her ears!  Badly!  She had blisters!  She doesn't usually have her hair up in the sun.  Dylan got them too.  I felt really bad.  I didn't get sunburned but after 1.5 games my eyeballs were hurting from the bright sunlight.  I had a hat on, but had to get sunglasses too.  And by the end of the day, my head was pounding!  It was exhausting.  But we had to come back the next day to finish it up with 4-6 more games.  It ended up being 4 because Kylee and Dylan's teams both lost in the semifinals.  Kylee played the Renegades and they had a couple guest players we had never seen before who just ran the whole game.  The theory was they were Jackson friends (aka rich and heavily invested in the best soccer training).

Dylan's team played a Utah team and they played hard!  Dylan got a yellow card (the kid totally flopped, but Dylan does need to be more careful) and that team came to our coaches asking to see our submitted roster because they were sure we had brought in some ringers for this game. Because we somehow lost to Sugar City on our first game and this team beat them easily so they couldn't figure out how we were giving them such a good run.  It was pretty funny.  Another funny thing about this tournament was that the first team gave Dylan the sportsmanship pin.  We were all a bit shocked when he walked away with it.  Most teams give it to the nicest player, which usually ends up being the goalie because they are the only ones that aren't out there pushing people around.  Dylan thinks it was because one kid fell and he stopped to check on him.  That's all.  That was enough.  At that point they didn't know about the pins.  But we laughed because most teams hate Dylan.  He stops most break-aways, and he often ends up tripping/fouling people in the process.  He's not afraid to throw his weight around.  And he gets mad easy.  So yeah, we were pretty surprised when he got the pin.  Anyway, let's just say he didn't get the pin in that last game.

Sadie's team fought hard but they weren't winning.  I was rather annoyed that they had to play a second game on Saturday even though it wasn't for the championship. I was tired of losing and just ready to go home.  But I do enjoy visiting with the other parents and watching them play.  Little did I know this would be the last time this team was playing together... I'll get to that in another post.  Soccer drama takes up a lot of my mental capacity these days, lol.

This perfect ball imprint stayed on Kylee's leg for like a week!
Sadie has become obsessed with soccer!  She loves it, she loves her teammates.  She practices outside on our net and any practices she's invited to.
