My mom was able to come stay with my kids while we went to Hawaii. The kids were very excited, though they wished they could've gone to her house to stay instead, ha ha. My mom came a day early so we would have a day to hang out, but I wished it was longer.
The day before we left, I heard from multiple sources about illness running rampant. Kylee told me two of her good friends were home sick so she's most likely going to get it too. The girls piano teacher mentioned how she has so many out sick from our school. Sadie's basketball coach sent a text asking if they have enough girls well enough to hold practice. Kylee's voice teacher cancelled because her son was home sick...
I told my kids to wash their hands all the time!! My mom said she had gotten her flu shot so that's all she could do. I felt really bad leaving her in a cold climate around kids when her body is not used to either of those. It didn't take long before Kylee got sick, then Kaden was throwing up. Then Grandma was fevering too. Kylee's was short-lived, or at least she tried to make it that way by dosing up on ibuprofen so she could still go on her school ski trip. Not a great idea and I never would've allowed it but Grandma is nicer than me. Kylee came home feeling like death, of course. Slept in the next day but then went to school. Just as Dylan called my mom to come get him. Sadie and Dylan both ended up with fevers just before their sports so they stayed home. I felt really bad that my household was going through that while we were in paradise!! My mom was a trooper. Lots of cuddle time and movies.
But it wasn't all bad. They had some fun too.
I'm so glad my kids were happy to be with Grandma and didn't seem to miss us at all! There were no tears or anxiety about us being gone. It makes it much easier to enjoy ourselves while we are gone.
I was a little jealous that my kids got to hang out with her and I only had a day and a half.
It's good to be home! Handstands are fun even in the cold. (Maybe not quite as fun, though).
My mom was just happy that it didn't snow while she was here so she didn't have to shovel or drive in it. But boy did it snow after she left! There's been so much snow and more to come! I am not complaining because I was looking forward to the ski trips with my kids!
