Sadie's Harry Potter Birthday

Something you should know about me, is I don't like to do things half way.  My kids have all loved Harry Potter, but I have never tried to do a HP themed party because there are SO many things to do for it.  And this year was a tough year since our house was still being put back together.  Sadie's only request for the party was she wanted her friends from basketball and volleyball.  And she wanted a rainbow cake.  I decided we needed a theme, and we saw a couple things that looked fun.  From there, I just went all in.  I just hope she appreciates it because it was a lot.  Even the cake was a lot of work.  But it all turned out SO cute!

We started with invitations.  I bought paper that looked like parchment and found a template online.  After we printed them, we rolled them and tied them to white balloons that I had filled with helium.  This was tricky because we had to get the balloons at a time we could hand deliver each invitation.  And I used Kylee's art skills by giving her some owl pictures I found online.  She drew owls on all 10 balloons and they were SO cute.  I wish I had taken more pictures of them.

I printed out label for everything and cut them out, including this sign for platform 9 3/4.

We borrowed some decorations from my friend and got balloons.
We had been making wands for weeks.  The kids started this months ago.  I found ideas online and bought these really long chopsticks and paint.

I got a black tablecloth and some little fake candles.  I thought the table turned out so cute!

This theme is easy in the sense that there's so much you can do.  But I wanted to do everything, ha ha.

I bought a frog mold and I spent a long time trying to get these frogs to work out!  They are harder than you would think.  The arms broke off on all but one or two.  But they were yummy and still cute.

I decided to save her cake for just a family celebration on her actual birthday, so we did these cupcakes that worked as sorting hats.  They had different colors of M&Ms in them and each color went with a house.  Whichever color you chose, that's the house you were put in.

A pinata was one of the things she really wanted.  It was pretty amazing that the weather was good enough for us to do this outside.  It was beautiful!

As far as activities go, I didn't want to put together HP themed games.  And Sadie had really wanted to go to Blast Off for whatever reason.  So that's what we did.  The place was empty!  The girls spent quite a bit of time on the rock wall.  They also played a lot of laser tag.

We came home and opened presents and played for awhile longer.  Big day!

Sunday I made her cake.  I let Kylee help decorate it, which she loved.  We invited her cute friends over to enjoy it with us.

I refuse to use regular food dye.  I bought the all-natural kind on Amazon.  It is not as vibrant and I wasn't sure how it would turn out.  But I liked the pastel colors.  So cute!
After we sliced off a few pieces, the cake collapsed, haha.  Good thing we enjoyed it while it was standing.  It was also delicious...

She didn't ask for a lot of presents.  She loves the ripstik, and it had been broken.  But instead of buying a new one, I took it to a skate shop and got it fixed.  Then I got her some stickers to personalize it.  She also got a big thing of makeup from Sara so her and Kylee did some makeovers.

She is a happy girl!  This blog is proof for the years to come that I did special things for her birthday!  It was a lot of fun, though.  I kind of want to have a Harry Potter party with my friends now. Ha ha.
