Sadie has done so well at Preschool. Who knew she was so school-smart? I feel like she is as quick as Kylee was at
that age. But it will be interesting to
see how she does in school because her personality is so much different than
Kylee’s. I feel like she is very capable
of learning things but she doesn’t have the drive. She just doesn’t want to sometimes. When she’s in the mood, when it’s fun, she
will read and do really well. When she’s
not in the mood, she has no interest at all.
She’s not as driven as Kylee. At
least not yet. That could change. It will be very interesting to see how things
go when she starts Kindergarten and 1st. As of now, we are working with her on reading
simple things. We’ve got some easy
reading books from the library that we try to work with, but she isn’t always
into it. It was easier when the other
kids weren’t home. They are all having a
hard time wanting to do any productive work.
They just want to play. With each
other! It’s hard to complain too much
when they are making secret hideouts and searching for spiderwebs, etc. Kid stuff.
So we aren’t pushing the reading thing too much. She will get there.
I feel bad because almost all of her little friends will be
starting Kindergarten this year. Pretty
much everyone in her church class will be starting, everyone from her preschool
class is starting, even the cute boys down the street she plays with are
starting. She’s going to be very limited
on who she can play with next year when everyone else is at school! Which will be hard because this child is
SOCIAL. She always, always wants to be
playing with someone. She will go
outside to ride her bike and end up hanging out with whoever is out there. I don’t mind that at all as long as she stays
close to our house.
Anyway, back to preschool.
She had her little graduation, which was Hawaii themed. It was adorable.
Her cute friend Lily:
The stage lighting is so horrible for picture. I almost want to just toss the pictures and call it a waste, but then I wouldn't have any pictures of her with Miss Kymm or these cute girls.
Kelsie:
Raegan:
It’s funny how her whole class is like a foot taller than
her mostly. But she fit right in. She made so many friends! She’s going to miss this group and Miss Kymm.
Sadie knew all the songs really well. And she knows the Pledge of Allegiance, the
months of the year, days of the week, etc.
She learns songs really fast just like her mom and sister both. She had a lot of fun in preschool this year!
On a different note, I’ve realized how very similar Dylan
and Sadie are personality-wise. They are
both super social and not shy of strangers at all. They both get fun ideas and start projects
and rarely follow through with them.
Most comically, they both wander upstairs around 11 pm almost every
night, half asleep and really needing the potty but usually too asleep to find
it. We often crack up about it because we
will point to the bathroom and say, “go to the bathroom, it’s right there.” And sometimes they will start that way, even
go in the bathroom door, and then wander back out with this pained looke on
their face like they just can’t find it and they desperately need it. Dylan is worse than Sadie, or at least more
funny, but they both do it. It’s just
funny that they have a bathroom just feet from their bedrooms downstairs. Oh well, sleepwalking must run in the family
because I used to do that too apparently.
They were complete opposites as babies. But I’m seeing more and more of 4-year-old
Dylan in Sadie right now and it’s a little stressful for me. Because we had a lot of battles with Dylan at
age 4. It’s an age where they are
pushing their limits and seeing what they have control over and how far they
can push. It’s power struggles and a lot
of screaming fits. I can’t imagine she
will be as stubborn as Dylan was. And
since we’ve gone through it once already, I imagine this time will be easier,
but it’s still not fun.
Sadie and Dylan have golf together, Kylee is in the older
group and goes after them. Sadie was
telling me one day how she got to have two rides in the golf cart because the
coach had to take her to the potty. The next
day she told me she got to ride in the cart again! And a girl in her class was complaining that
it’s not fair. Dylan says, “it’s NOT
fair she always gets rides.” This time
it wasn’t for a bathroom break. I can
only imagine it’s because she’s so slow (that girl really is SLOW, not just
walking but getting anything done.) I
said as much but Dylan said, “no, it’s because she’s the cutest.” He said it with a bit of bitterness. What can I say to that? Sadie is the littlest child in Jr Golf, and I’m
sure the coaches do think she’s pretty cute.
Who doesn’t? But that isn’t
really fair. I tried to explain to Dylan
that it’s just because she’s little and her short legs aren’t very fast. But also that little things are cute, just like
Kaden is super cute. Or the tiny little
grapes we find on the vines are cute. I
think he understood, but he still thinks it’s unfair.
I remember when she was just a baby or toddler and I knew we
were spoiling her. I used to say that
she gets whatever she wants but that’s just because she wants so little. She was just happy most the time so when she
wasn’t happy, it was easy to try and please her. It’s possible that we are paying for that
now. She is a stubborn little thing. The dinner battles continue, though not as often
as before. Really, I think if we can get
through this summer, things will get better when there’s more of a schedule and
less chaos. I can survive that long,
right?
