We rented jet-skis and it was really fun but also not fun at times. It's just really hard to do much with three people on those things. And the water was really choppy and there were so many boats around that it made me nervous. But everyone had fun at times. Kaden really wanted to drive and he told me for his 16th birthday he wanted to rent jet skis so he could drive, lol.
The guy was telling Ryan how to control the jet ski and he started drifting towards this boat in the pic so he hit the gas a little and the stream of water coming from the back went right into the guy's face that's in the pic. It was hilarious and hard to watch and Dylan joked around about the guy coming after Ryan.
When you aren't the one driving, it feels very sketchy. Even driving it can get sketchy, especially when not moving much because you start to tip. We had to go slow in the no-wake zone and as soon as Ryan got past it he tried to hit the gas and they immediately all fell off. That was enough to make Kaden not trust him anymore and get really nervous as they were riding. He was worried he would fall off again while going faster and that the jet ski would run him over. We explained that he would fall behind it if he did, but he just wasn't having a good time. Not until we stopped and let them swim around and he ended up getting on my jet ski. He trusted me a lot more.
We eventually let them go play at a beach close by, which I swear was a public beach according to Google Maps but Kylee says it was definitely not because some kid was having a birthday party at the house there and they were getting weird looks. I told Ryan to let Dylan drive for a few minutes, what is it going to hurt. And literally two minutes later the police boat came heading towards them. It didn't come to them or stop, but it sure scared Ryan. We headed back towards the pier and Ryan and Dylan swam over to some rocks so they could cliff jump. Kylee drove his jet ski around while they did. I was taking videos and just hanging out, but occasionally it would start to tip and I would have to give it gas. It finally got us one time and we all fell/jumped off. (We were told not to hold on if it starts tipping because it's a much bigger problem if you flip the jet ski). Unfortunately I was wearing my sunglasses and I didn't even realize they were missing until later when we returned the jet skis. Ryan did the same with his hat, it fell off right at the beginning when they fell in and he didn't notice. It's a huge lake, 40 miles one directions and 10 miles the other. It's really pretty too. We decided to come back and explore the cliff jumping and beachy areas the next day. There's a hill called Tubb's Hill with trails all over it, it's only like a mile wide, maybe two miles if you hike the perimeter, which we didn't do. We did hike far enough to find some good rocks to hang out at and then further to this little rope swing we saw the day before.
This was a fun day that everyone enjoyed. Win! That just doesn't happen all that much. Plus it had all my favorite things: trails, mountains, lakes, cliff jumping, 95 degrees and FAMILY.
Kaden was finding all sorts of pretty rocks and asking me to use my identifier app to tell him what they were. They were all quartz.
This is a beautiful area and I'd love to spend more time here. I asked the guy if it is normally 100 degrees in the summer there and he said no, it was an extra hot summer. It sounds pretty similar to Idaho Falls normally, even though it's much further north, it's much lower elevation (at least 2000 ft lower). So we just got "lucky" that we went during a heat wave. Nothing a little lake swim and ice cream can't fix.
